Boogie Angst imprint the label welcomes back Snacks - the musical pseudonym of the Berlin based New Zealand/German production duo Rene Corbett & Aljoscha Babel, who, since their first outing on BA, released on labels such as House of Disco, Mule Musiq / Endless Flight, Pusic and Compost Records.
Their swung style of electronic music is shaped by a diverse melting pot of vintage synth hardware, hip hop, soul, funk and jazz influences alongside club sensibilities. And it’s all there on show in this record – ‘Nobody Else EP’.
The vocal snaps on the emotive opener ‘Nobody Else’ wail out ‘I love you’ over the soulful horns and reverb drenched synth chord backdrop. Light and airy synths drift in and out of focus underneath the pleading topline dancing over the groove. It’s the perfect late night bedroom listening for those cold winter nights.
The Dilla-esque – ‘Daydream’ is a jazzy and meditative low slung Hip Hop beat with tasteful piano runs dropping like light rain in a meadow on a summers day. The off kilter and ever so slightly wonky low end balance it out with just enough beef to keep you on your toes and not get so relaxed you fall asleep… It’s Chill Hop at it’s finest.
‘Move Electric’ takes things into familiar Snacks territory with their signature pitchy synth stabs and start–stop house style rhythms and a slowly throbbing bass keeping the beat. It’s intelligent dance music with enough detail to keep it interesting beyond the club and reminds of the likes of Rival Consoles...
And lastly up and coming German natives - Mr. Fries & Kandinsky who have released on the respected Wolf Music, Soul Notes and Philpot labels contribute a tasty Deep House remix complete with dusty samples and soulful vocals over a funky bassline. What more could you ask for?
